Meeting our energy needs

Secure, long life and competitively priced electricity supply is vital in the aluminium industry.

We own sufficient generation capacity to meet about half of our electricity needs, a proportion well above the industry average. Our long term power purchase contracts account for an additional 46 per cent of our electricity supply.

About 75 per cent of our total electricity supply is non fossil fuel based hydro power and nuclear power. As with our aluminium smelters, most of our power facilities are in Canada.
