Rio Tinto Alcan partners with the first College Industrial Research Chair in Metallurgy at Trois-Rivières

Rio Tinto Alcan announced that it will provide financial support to the first College Industrial Research Chair in Metallurgy, to be located in Trois-Rivières. Sound partner of the primary metal industry, Rio Tinto Alcan will contribute 500,000 dollars to this new endeavour.

"This partnership aims to develop innovative solutions and technologies for foundry-based applied research. It will contribute to the transfer of technology and knowledge, in addition to providing students with the means of gaining experience in problem solving and meeting challenges on an industrial scale," declared Frédéric Laroche, Director of the Rio Tinto Alcan Primary Metal Arvida Research & Development Centre.

Rio Tinto Alcan worked hand-in-hand with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and various other partners in creating this new industrial chair. This collaboration further emphasizes the importance of joint contributions by public organisations and private companies.

The college metallurgical research chair at Cégep de Trois-Rivières will help to further expand the network of collaborators and reinforce Rio Tinto Alcan's strategic position regarding aluminium-based industrial and applied research. The initiative will also stimulate aluminium transformation in Quebec.
