Rio Tinto Alcan releases its sustainable development report for Quebec

Rio Tinto Alcan published its sustainable development report for Quebec today. It outlines the organisation's of environmental performance and socio-economic accountability from 2008 to 2011.

"Rio Tinto Alcan is working hard every day to ensure the ongoing improvement and growth of its activities, all of which we wish to see conducted in a more responsible way," declared Étienne Jacques, Chief Operating Officer, Rio Tinto Alcan - Primary Metal North America. "The 2011 Sustainable Development Report illustrates the tangible results generated by each and every effort put forth to enhance our organisation's environmental and socio-economic performance, both of which stand as the basis for the respectful relations we enjoy with our surrounding communities."

Over the past years, numerous initiatives have been launched to improve in every area of sustainable development, including: regional economic development, safety, health and well-being, the environment and community relations.

During the event, Serge Bouchard, Manager of the Rio Tinto Alcan Quebec Power Operations division stated, "the choices we have made as key performance indicators, rely on discussions and activities held with various partners over the last few years." He also mentioned that it is of the utmost importance for Rio Tinto Alcan to continue reaching new heights in this field. "Our report provides precise and transparent information pertaining to our main activities. It bridges the gap between the stakeholders' concerns and the challenges we are faced with."
